What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid allows charities like us to reclaim tax (25p for every £1) from the government on your donations. If you are a UK taxpayer, by opting to Gift Aid you enable us to treat your payment as a donation, so each £1 you spend can do £1.25 of good.

Gift aid declaration

If you’re a UK Income or Capital Gains taxpayer* you can choose to pay a Gift Aid admission, which includes a voluntary donation of 10%. This donation means that, as a charity, English Heritage can reclaim tax on the whole amount you’ve paid – that’s 25p on every £1. This extra money enables us to undertake vital conservation and education projects and ensure that many of England’s most important historic sites can continue to be enjoyed by future generations.

Please do NOT treat my payment as a Gift Aid donation. There will be an option to make a voluntary donation later in the booking process.

* Other taxes such as Council Tax and VAT do not apply. As a UK taxpayer you understand that if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all donations in that tax year it is your responsibility to pay any difference.
